Mother fucking glory.
My Garmin has my pace about 10 seconds per mile faster than my results, which makes me think the course was short, so I'm not focused on the time. Just the glory.
I went into the race planning on using it as a tempo run. I have a "real" race coming up, and thought it would be a good idea to go through the motions without the stress. I wasn't sure how fast the crowd would be this year, but the previous year's times made me think that even at my tempo pace I'd have a good chance of placing in my age group.
Within the first five minutes it became clear that there was only one woman ahead of me. She was far enough ahead of me that I didn't have any plans to overtake her early on, and by the time we were nearing the finish line I didn't have the kick, physically or mentally, to do it. So I just paced her, following behind, making sure I didn't slow down.
I didn't know how close anyone was behind me. I glanced a few times and didn't see any other women, which meant I probably wasn't pushing as hard as I could, because it was my race to lose.
I don't know how to write a race report. I just needed to throw this up.
2nd woman overall.
That's pretty fucking cool.
